I’ve switched to reading feeds with Gregarius because I grew tired of tweaking my old reader, unfortunately code that apparently is no longer developed. Gregarius has more bells and whistles than I’ve had time to look into, and I had to change my reading habits a bit, but not too drastically. Installation was a breeze and I could move all my feeds with a couple of clicks using an OPML file. Gregarius is also themable and pluggable, which is always a guarantee for hours of fun adjusting the behaviour to your liking. (more…)

Suomenkielinen WordPress 2.0.1 on valmis! Kiitos kaikista avuntarjouksista — ne ovat ainakin kyydittäneet käännöksen etenemistä, vaikkei työn jakamista paljon tapahtunut. Ja kyydittämistä selkeästi kaivattiinkin… :-)

Kyselin muilta kääntäjiltä, miten he hoitavat useamman kääntäjän tulosten yhdistämisen, mutta kävi ilmi, että ryhmissä on yleensä yksi kääntäjä ja useita avustajia, jotka sähköpostilla lähettävät sitten korjauksia tarvittaessa. Teknisesti työn voisi jakaa osiin itse viestien (po-tiedoston), teeman, TinyMCE:n ja ”muiden ylläpitotiedostojen” kesken. Tätä lähestymistapaa voisi käyttää jatkossa, jos vapaaehtoisia löytyy.

Yksi 2.x-versioiden uutuuksista on JavaScriptillä toteutettu graafinen muokkain, TinyMCE. Se on integroitu WordPressiin niin, ettei sitä voi kääntää kuin monistamalla kaikki sen tiedostot. Tämän vuoksi useimmissa kotoistetuissa versioissa graafista muokkainta ei ole käännetty (espanjankielisen version ylläpitäjät ovat tämänkin urakan toteuttaneet, joten mahdotonta se ei ole). Jos joku kääntää TinyMCE:n tiedostot, mielelläni liitän käännetyn version hetimiten jakelupakettiin.

Well, this is only for those of you who browse with MSIE: the images on my (non-blog) pages are back. For example, I’m sure the Proxy through SSH document is easier to follow with the screen captures visible, instead of staring at blank spots. (The blog pages were already fixed earlier.)

I wonder how many more times I’m going to be writing about the same problem — it is just so very annoying that I have to at least vent a little after fixing the same thing over and over. This time I had to add an extra <div> element on the pages, which makes it even more frustrating (“unnecessary” extra elements). Well, I put some comments in the code so I’d remember why it is there…

Not that I noticed this one on my own, either. I was talking to someone about a page, and got an odd “what picture?” response. At least I now immediately remember to fire up MSIE when I hear something like that.

I have started a new page about NetBSD: the NetBSD News Beat is aggregated from a number of feeds that publish NetBSD-related articles. As of now there are seven sources, listed at the bottom of the news page.

I’d be glad to add more feeds to the page, so please send in suggestions either by commenting on this article or by emailing me. Feeds in any RSS version or Atom can be included.

I’m still looking at different aggregators best suited for the job, but currently I’m using rawdog by Adam Sampson.
